Unleashing Emotions: The Ice Cupcake Method

Ever felt so overwhelmed by emotions that you just didn’t know what to do with them? That bubbling frustration, the simmering anger, or the deep sadness that you can’t quite shake? These emotions, when left unexpressed, can become trapped within us, weighing down our spirits and even affecting our physical health. But there’s a simple, almost playful way to get them up, out, and away: throwing ice cupcakes.

Why Ice Cupcakes?

Imagine this: you’re holding a silicone muffin tin, filled with frozen water—your very own ice cupcakes. They’re cold, solid, and shaped to perfection. But these aren’t just frozen treats; they’re a powerful metaphor for your emotions. When we experience intense feelings, especially the uncomfortable ones, they often stay stuck within us. According to Discover Healing, trapped emotions can manifest as physical discomfort, chronic stress, and even illness. It’s like these emotions solidify inside, taking up space where peace and happiness should reside.

Throwing ice cupcakes allows you to physically express and release those feelings. It’s a tangible way to shatter the ice that’s been building up inside you.

The Power of Ice Throwing

The practice of throwing ice has gained attention as a cathartic release, particularly for moms dealing with pent-up frustrations. As noted by Expectful, the act of throwing something—especially something harmless like ice—provides an immediate release. It’s a powerful moment of surrender, of letting go, of acknowledging that these emotions need to be expressed.

By hurling that ice cupcake against the pavement, you’re symbolically—and literally—breaking the emotional tension. The sound of the ice shattering, the sensation of letting it fly from your hand, it all contributes to the sense of relief. It’s a safe, yet forceful way to move emotions up and out of your body.

Supporting Your Emotional Release

While throwing ice cupcakes is an excellent way to release pent-up emotions, it’s equally important to support this process with practices that cultivate emotional resilience and balance. One of the simplest and most effective ways to do this is through gratitude journaling. Spending just 10 minutes a day reflecting on what you’re grateful for can shift your mindset and help you focus on the positives in your life, even amidst emotional turbulence. This practice helps ground you and prevents new emotions from becoming trapped.

Pairing this with the doTERRA Emotional Aromatherapy Kit can further enhance your emotional well-being. The six unique essential oil blends—Motivate, Cheer, Passion, Forgive, Console, and Peace—are designed to address different emotional needs. Whether you’re feeling anxious, discouraged, or overwhelmed, these oils can help you reset and refocus. Imagine diffusing the Cheer blend after an ice-throwing session, filling the space with uplifting citrus and spice aromas that invigorate your spirit. Or using Forgive to help let go of lingering resentment or frustration.

The Consequences of Trapped Emotions

Holding on to emotions without an outlet can have significant repercussions. Discover Healing highlights that when we trap our emotions, we aren’t just storing them away for later—they can become embedded in our energy field and body, leading to pain and emotional disconnection. It’s as if those frozen emotions block the natural flow of energy, creating blockages that prevent us from feeling whole and healthy.

Think of your emotions like water. When water is allowed to flow, it nourishes everything in its path. But when it’s frozen, it becomes rigid and immovable. If we don’t take steps to thaw and release these emotional blocks, we risk allowing them to define us—keeping us stuck in patterns of anger, sadness, or resentment.

Making Your Own Ice Cupcakes

Ready to give this a try? Here’s how you can make your own ice cupcakes and start your journey toward emotional freedom:

  1. Gather Your Supplies: All you need are silicone muffin tins and water. If you want to get creative, add a drop of food coloring or essential oils to each cupcake—something that represents the emotions you’re feeling.
  2. Freeze: Place the filled muffin tins in the freezer and let the water solidify into ice cupcakes. While you wait, think about the emotions you’ve been holding on to. Visualize them being stored in these frozen forms.
  3. Release: Once frozen, take your ice cupcakes outside. Find a safe space where you can throw them—whether it’s against a wall, onto the pavement, or into a bucket. As you throw each cupcake, imagine the emotions leaving your body and shattering along with the ice.
  4. Reflect and Reset: After your ice-throwing session, spend 10 minutes journaling about the experience and what you’re grateful for in your life. This can help solidify the emotional release and replace it with a sense of peace. Follow up by using one of the doTERRA Emotional Aromatherapy blends to support your ongoing emotional balance.

Final Thoughts

Working through emotions doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes, all it takes is a little creativity and willingness to let go. The ice cupcake method is a reminder that emotions are meant to flow—just like water. When we allow ourselves to feel and express them, we make room for healing and growth. So, next time you feel the weight of unexpressed emotions, grab those silicone muffin tins, start throwing, journal your gratitude, and let the soothing power of essential oils bring you back to balance.

Create Your Own Essential Oil Blend

Sara Janssen, doTERRA Presidential Diamond in Texas taught me how to create my own blend. Listen to the complete podcast at How to Make Your Own Natural Perfume.

How To Make DIY Natural Essential Oil Perfume

The one thing about blending that you should know. Because, after all, you wouldn’t want to create a combination you detest? You don’t want to mix ingredients, add your priceless oils, and then decide later that you don’t want to use that on your skin. After that, you store it in a drawer. I’m going to tell you some easy strategies to make sure you love it every single time because you don’t want it to happen.

Base Notes, Middle Notes, and Top Notes in Perfume

Don’t over think this, just now that there are three types of notes: base, mid, and top. Additionally, the ratio is a little bit different so that, for example, 20 drops of patchouli and only one drop of bergamot won’t completely overpower the aroma. You should approach it with some consideration. But I don’t want any fear among you. Never be scared to give something new a try. to slightly alter things. If you mix to the ideal ratio and still don’t enjoy the smell, add anything to make it smell a little more like this oil. It’s not necessary to adhere to exactly. Still, I’ll give you some pointers.

I like to start by using the caps of the oils and want to blend and swirl them under my nose to figure out where to start. Then I start smell. 1 drop for those oils I don’t want to overpower the perfume, and up to 4 drops of the scent I most want to be stronger in a small glass bowl or container. The I mix them and put a dab on my wrist. I make notes of each step or test as I go so I can adjust. Remember it is going to smell different on you then in a diffuser or on someone else. Once I get it just right I create it to equal between 40-50 total drops then I put it in a 10 ml rollerbottle and top it off with carrier oil.

I like to use the stickers from https://oilsharingtools.com/. I write the number of drops of each oil on the sticker prior to placing it on the bottle. Then I cover the sticker with packing tape to keep them secured.

If you don’t know where to start, try using diffuser blend recipes to inspire you. I love using the doTERRA 100 diffuser blend idea e-book.

Grounding

Grounding also referred to as earthing is not a new technique. Our DNA remembers a time when our bodies were supported by the heavens and the earth. Our ancestors were continuously connected to the heavens and earth as they played and worked outside. As we evolved and technology improved we spend less time outside connecting to the heavens and the earth. Being outside and in direct contact with the earth through our hands and feet we can restore balance and wellbeing mentally and physically.

When I was training to be a mentor I learned the importance of having a mentor. As I have been on a journey of self-discovery and healing I have discovered that surround myself with amazing people who have more experience or different experiences than me has made the biggest difference. I have also surrounded myself with people who lift me up, inspire me, teach me, and call me out when I am not living from my strengths.

We often can’t see our own blind spots, but when we surrounded by a healing tribe they can help guide us in the right directions. My healing tribe also includes a fitness coach, a Reiki Master, a Hypnotherapist, mentors, and more. As a Certified Essential Oil Coach I also work with a few Essential Oil Coaches who mentor, teach, and support me. As a Body Code Practitioner I work with a Body Code Practitioner and an Emotion Code Practitioner to work on my own misalignments and trapped emotions. My healing tribe also includes friends who support my healing.

Starting in August I will be highlighting amazing people who love supporting others in their healing journey. Coming Soon will be doing interview on Facebook as well as creating a directory at Create Your Own Healing Tribe. Come join me in sharing my tribe and find ways to create a tribe of your own.
