Back to School Basics???

School is not just about academics, it is important for social health and emotional health. Virtual Illusion: Comparing Student Achievement and Teacher and Classroom Characteristics in Online and Brick-and-Mortar Charter Schools states, “Social interaction among children in grades K-12 is important not only for emotional wellbeing, but also for children’s language, communication, social, and interpersonal skills.” As we abruptly went to distant learning at the end of last year I saw the toll it took on all of my children from my youngest in Elementary School to my oldest at college.

Back to School Basics????

As we start this school year it looks nothing like the last 13 years of sending my children to school. Whatever going back to school looks like for you and your children I honor your choice. If your anything like me it was not an easy decisions. I am still questioning some of the decisions we have made as a family.

Our School District is schooled to return on August 24th and there are still many unknowns. I have not purchase any school supplies because we have not received any supply list. Most of the School Districts, Schools and Teacher have been focusing most of their time on following CDC guidelines and creating school safety plans than preparing to teach.

As a parent I am choosing to focus what I can do to prepare my children to go back to school. I am preparing them with the tools to support their immune system. This starts with healthy eating, proper supplementation  including doTERRA On Guard+ Softgels,  exercise, as well as proper rest and stress management. It also includes removing toxins from our home by using natural cleaning and hygiene products. And last but most important is washing our hands or sanitizing has because more routine to better support our immune system.

I am also preparing my children with the tools to support their emotional health. It also starts with healthy physical habits just like our immune system. Having daily discussions one on one and as a family about emotions and events of the day is very beneficial. Essential Oils are key in our home for emotional support and we use the book Essential Emotions to help us determine the best oil to support the emotion. doTerra’s website also has great resource emotional support including: Creating Love & Connection, Calming Anxious Feelings, and Lifting Discouragement.

Back to School is not basic this year! May your family stay healthy physically and emotionally.

Recalculating
Making a Difference

Recalculating: This was not the destination I had planned.

In September of 2018, I started writing a book. As all too often in my life, my fears and insecurities set in and I set the book aside. With the crazy events of 2020, I am once again be directed to create a community to support others. I am excited for this journey and the people who are choosing to begin this adventure with me. So, with that I am setting my fears aside, and I am going to share what I believe is the first chapter of my book and the beginning of the next step in my life.

In August of 2018 as I was driving in an unfamiliar city with a navigation app giving direction, I started thinking the navigation system was broken. “In 500 hundred feet turn left.” At the only possible left turn I turn left only to hear, “Recalculating, in 300 feet, make a U turn”. WHAT????? We make a U turn to then be direct to make a right turn in 300 feet. We headed back were we came from. There were several more questionable times on the trip where the navigation took us behind shopping centers, through neighborhoods, and recalculated that got me thinking something was wrong. Then I realized that this navigation system seems to be the theme of my life; RECALCULATING.

There have been several times in the last eight years that I have felt I should write a book, only to recalculate what I was thinking.  Most of the reevaluating came in the form of self-talk, “What are you thinking? You are a hot mess, you have nothing to offer. How are you going to help anyone when you can’t help yourself? You are dyslexic, how are you going to write a book that anyone would read?” Even as I am typing, my self-talk is having a field day trying to get the doubt and destruction that so often rule my thoughts and actions to take over. Well not this time! YOU ARE NOT IT, I AM IN CONTROL. I am choosing to take the wheel and see where this trip takes me, broken navigation system and all.

I am in my 40s and the life I have lived so far is not what I thought it would be. I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up. I am still on the road of self-discovery and healing. I am still trying to figure out who I am. I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, co-worker, etc., but those are just labels, they don’t really feel like they are who I am. Will I ever know who I am? I sure hope so, or at the very least, I hope I can learn to find joy in the journey, because let me tell you my life has been full of ups and downs. I have found joy along the way, but I have also battled depression, anxiety, and abuse. Not just Domestic Violence, which included verbal, physical, and sexual abuse, but also body shaming, bullying, and verbal abuse from family, friends, and acquaintances as a child and an adult. I have done more than my fair share of self-abuse. So, my life has been full of detours, delays, and recalculating.

Maybe at the end of the book I should give you a timeline as a point of reference since this book is going to jump all over the place. It may be easier to write chronologically for me, but this is not an autobiography. I am sure for you it will be more enjoyable written by the segments of my life. I am hoping you will be able to relate to it.

My intention for this book is to let you know you are not alone. I want to open a conversation about things that are hard to talk about and create a community people who looking for balance, health, and healing from abuse, chemical imbalance, suicide, eating disorders, depression, and more who want to find joy in the journey. We are all on the planet trying to figure out this life, who we are and what our destination is.

Please remember everyone has his or her own journey. Our experiences may be similar, but they are each unique. Even though many people could have been at the same event, each person experiences and remembers those events through their own eyes and will recall the event differently. I am writing from my perspective of my life. How the events showed up for me as I reflect back on them. I am a daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend, Essential Oil Coach, Emotion Code Practitioner, and Entrepreneur. I am not a Doctor, Counselor or Therapist. I believe it is important to work with Doctors, Counselors and Therapists along with Essential Oils, Energy Healing and spirituality to find health, healing, and joy.

Oh The Places We’ve Been, Now on to What is Possible

August 9th of 2002 changed my life forever with one small gift, a Signing Time Video.

Original Signing Time VHS

I join the email list, then attended a playgroup where I told Emily Brown I should just sale the Video for them. I sold them out of the back of my car to anyone who wanted to learn more about why I was signing with my toddler. At the time there was only one VHS. I filmed for a commercial that never ran, but feel even more in love with one mother’s mission to help others communicate with her child.

I started participating in weekly chats where I met the most amazing people. There was a group of us that started volunteering for outreach events and became close friends. So close we even got together a few times for a weekend retreat.

In June of 2005 I became an employee of Two Little Hands Productions. Now 15 years later, today is my last day as an employee of Azevedo Studios/Two Little Hands Productions. It has been more than just a job, it has become family. It has been an opportunity of growth and personal development.

Over the last 15 years I have worked with many amazing people. I have attended many outreach events and meeting amazing Signing Time Families. I help start and run the Signing Time Academy meeting many incredible Instructors who have become dear friends. I ran my first half marathon as part of team “Strong Enough”. I have assisted at many concerts and the Saturday’s Warrior Movie Premier.

So as I sit here looking at pictures from the last 18 years of my time with Two Little Hands Productions. I am grateful for all the memories, the friendships, and the love. It is with tears of joy that I move on to the next chapter of my life.

I will continue to share the benefits of signing. I will continue to share Signing Time, so if you have are not familiar with Two Little Hands Productions you can get a 14-day FREE trial to My Signing Time Digital Products by clicking here.

Now on to what is possible

Monday, June 15, 2020, I will be running my own business as an Emotion Code Practitioner, Essential Oil Coach, AromaDance Instructor, Mindful Movement Instructor, Food Blogger, and doTerra Wellness Advocate. In other words, I will be creating my own future doing what I love most which is severing others. The biggest thing I have learn in my last 15 years is that one person can make a difference in the world if they just take the first step.

Thank you for the memories!

You Don’t Have to be a Dancer to Dance

I am not a Dancer!Dance

I don’t have rhythm!

Hello, I am critically Caucasian!

These are just a couple of reasons I hear when I invite people to attend and AromaDance or Mindful Movement Class.

I get it and I was guilty of it as well. I was introduced to AromaDance in September of 2014 by a friend. I was skeptical, was an athlete not a dancer. Over the years my tune has changed.

The more I dance the more in tune I am with myself physically, mentally, and emotionally. There are sometimes I have to put on music loud with strong heavy beats and dance out deep heavy emotions. Other times it is The Greatest Showman Soundtrack or other musicals. I have come to appreciate what my body can do as I pretend to be a ballerina to beautiful instrumental music. As I connect with my body through movement and the music it can even be a spiritual experience.

Our bodies are meant to move

“In less than two generations, physical activity has dropped by 20% in the U.K. and 32% in the U.S. In China, the drop is 45% in less than one generation. Vehicles, machines and technology now do our moving for us. What we do in our leisure time doesn’t come close to making up for what we’ve lost” – designedtomove.org

Studies have shown that movement affects every aspect of our physical and emotional health. It helps regulate on hormones and metabolism, supports circulation & respiration,  aids in digestion, immunity and detoxification of the body. Movement that you enjoy improves your mood.

“Dance is more than the exploring of different ways to make a shape or learning a series of steps to music; it is a way of moving that uses the body as an instrument of expression and communication. – http://www.camarilloacademy.com/2011/09/why-dance/

The benefits of dancing are innumerable. Here are a few of the reasons I think EVERYONE should dance.

  1. It allows self expression. There is no right or wrong way to do it.
  2. Provides a physical and emotional release.
  3. Improves Strength, Flexibility, and Endurance
  4. Improves your connection to your body which improves self-confidence and self-esteem.
  5. Improves mental functioning
  6. Improves balance and spatial awareness
  7. It’s fun!!!!

Don’t over think it

You don’t have to go to a club, just turn on your favorite song and start moving your body. You know your own physical limitations. You can dance sitting down, just move your hands and feet to the music. The more you do it the stronger your body will get.

You don’t have to have rhythm, you are not being judged. This is just about taking care of yourself. But you can be brave and invite your friends, your spouse, children, and/or grandchildren to join you.

Sway

About a year ago my husband and I attended Royalty and Romance from 3 Key Elements where we learned about swaying. This has aligned our marriage better than anything else we do. We end each day with swaying with each other.

You Don’t Have to be a Dancer to Dance

Just put on some music and move!
